a Giclee Fine Art Reproduction on 300# Heavy Sommerset: a 100% Rag Archival Paper
The account of Jesus washing the feet of the Apostles in the Gospel According to John, is the evangelists' great example of humble service demanded by Jesus of those who would be his followers. The text in the border of the painting reproduced here reads: "After he had washed their feet...he said, "What I just did was to give you an example: as I have done, so you must do." Peter's green robe -- a traditional attribute for the apostle in Christian iconography -- represents the hope of every disciple to fulfill Jesus' example. The purple background evokes the events of Jesus' Passion and the ultimate example of one giving of one's self for others. But the purple is bordered in gold -- the traditional color of heaven and eternal life -- to symbolize the reward of the life given in service to others. Commissioned by ACTS Missions, the painting is a visual statement of the goals of the ministry's retreat program.
